Rowing Open Day 2005, Sunday 22nd May

Clean Up Australia Day 2005, Sunday 6th March
A small but eager group, armed with gloves and bags to collect the rubbish scoured the banks of the Yarra with the simple mission to seek out and destroy rubbish! The true athletic nature of our members was on display, as they put life and limb at risk in the pursuit of plastic bags. We had other members out in the speed boats trying to reach the plastic bags from the water. Palstic bags were well and truly wrapped around the trees. Some of the more unusual items collected included a table that was pulled from the river, a sleeping bag, and a tyre. Our hard work was rewarded with a sausage sizzle organized by the social committee. Special thanks goes to Parks Victoria for providing us with some tools to reach the rubbish, and to Xavier for the use of one of their speed boats. Thank you to everyone that got involved at such short notice. We ended up collecting almost 20 bags of rubbish, and at least when we sit on the HRC balcony we now have a pristine view (except for the lone plastic bag we missed).
HRC has also partciipated in Clean Up Australia Day in 2006.
