Learning to Row

The first timers Learn to Row program (LTR) consists of 4 lessons plus 2 group practice sessions. In these 4 lessons you will:
- Learn correct rowing technique on the Ergo and in the boat,
- experience rowing in sculling and sweep boats, and importantly,
- LTR provides a foundation and pathway for you to continue rowing with Hawthorn Rowing Club for fun, fitness, make new friends, or for the thrill of competition and regattas.
What to bring
The best clothing for rowing includes:
- Close fitting ¾ pants or shorts (tracksuit pants if it’s cold)
- Not too baggy t-shirt or long-sleeve top
- Thongs, hat, and something to tie your hair back/up
Continue Rowing
After completing 4 LTR sessions, participants can progress to the next level. There is the After-School rowing program for students and the Keep-Rowing program for Adults.

You can continue developing your skills and fitness by rowing socially, for fun and fitness without becoming a member of the club. If your plan is to compete in regattas then you can become a member and commence Squad training – we are developing competitive squads for Junior (U18), Youth (U21), Senior (Open), and Master (>28).
Competing in Club races is lots of fun!
